The Söderköping Process 


The East-Central European Cross-Border Co-operation Enhancement Process

The project aims to co-operate with Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova to tackle the problems of irregular transit migration and asylum problems through:

  • Strenghtening border security.
  • Facilitating a structured open dialogue between involved migration authorities and EU member states to create a regional network for managing migration including readmission.
  • Building government capacity in the region to reduce irregular migration.
  • Transferring experience of acceding & candidate countries adapting to EU migration Acquis and Amsterdam treaty.

 

The Söderköping process is based on a two-tiered approach that includes an annual senior level review meeting and working level cluster meetings for migration service and border guard officials, and NGOs when appropriate. It also includes traning events.

 

The cluster comprise the following countries:

  • Northern Cluster: Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine;
  • Central and Southern Cluster: Hungary, Moldova, Romania; Slovakia, and Ukraine.
